Agility in Post COVID19 Workplace Culture

The quote appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine on the April 2020 issue, the ‘peak’ of the global COVID19 pandemic. This may be disheartening for our spirit, but it’s also the truth that we have to adapt with. Businesses shouldn’t stopped - and in this times, the principles of Agility in the workplace that’s been around for a while, have proven to be valuable to an organization’s resilience. 

Our world has changed and traditionally, we thought of it as a threat, or an indication of error. Now, the principle of agile should lead us to a new mindset that changes are inevitable & compulsory for success. 

Previously, we did planning in our organization as our way to reduce uncertainty and correct errors in decision making; but on the other hand (and especially relevant these days), too much planning will give us a false sense of certainty. So in the workplace after COVID19, we must stay agile in terms of always aware about the current state of the world and ready to correct the plan accordingly.   

Two activities that can be done regularly within your organization to help boost the agility after the pandemics: 

- Scrum 
Daily “stand-up” meeting that provides a regular inspection & adaptive cycle in which all employees can  sync and and can adjust to changes based on what they’ve learned in the last 24 hours and share that new understanding with others. It's perfect for this unpredictable age, as Scrum provides greater ability to your organization, to incorporate changes as they occur. Your team can work together more effectively, even in a remote working scheme, because Scrum encourages development teams to learn through their experiences, self-organize when resolving a problem, reflect on their wins and losses, and, as a result, reach continuous improvement.

- Sprint
Sprint reviews allow an inspect and adapt in your organization to create innovations in a short time, without making your employees overworked (a Sprint session has to be done within 9-to-5 normal workhour, 5 days maximum). Sprint becomes popular solutions in the workplace due to its utmost utilization of momentum, focus, and confidence - the good news is, Sprint works for teams and organizations of any size!
